SGI is rolling out a Parts Autonomy (Realized Parts Savings) program modeled on Manitoba's. Right now it's in a pilot phase — targets aren't being enforced yet. The shops that come out ahead are the ones building the RPS habit now, while mistakes are free.
SGI Parts Autonomy pairs shop control over parts decisions with Realized Parts Savings (RPS) targets. Shops keep autonomy over parts selection and, in exchange, must generate a benchmarked level of savings — through alternate parts or discounts, measured against OEM pricing — with targets weighted by each shop's actual work mix and tracked on a rolling scorecard. As of mid-2026 the program is in a pilot / training phase: financial reconciliation has not started, which makes this the window to build tracking and documentation habits before every estimate counts.

Practice is free — for now
While targets aren't enforced, nothing counts against you. Shops that build RPS habits during the pilot start the scored period already at or above target. Shops that wait learn the workflow while their score already counts.
You can't eyeball the target
RPS targets are weighted by your shop's work mix — vehicle makes, types, and ages. It is not a simple average, which is why manual or after-the-fact tracking falls behind a number the shop can't easily calculate itself.
The Manitoba precedent
Under MPI's long-running version of this model, performance is tracked on a rolling scorecard; sustained below-target performance can lead to corrective action and audits, while strong performance can earn incentives. SGI's final rules are SGI's to define — but the shape of the program is proven.
Documentation is the defense
Selecting OEM when an alternate is inappropriate is fine — if the reasoning is on the file. The habit that protects your score is documenting why a part was or wasn't used, on every estimate, starting now.
